A Brief Programming Note

Well, the day has finally arrived: I’ll be in the hospital later today for the long-awaited procedure which is designed to restore my heartbeat to its normal rhythm.  I’ll be undergoing this procedure at 11am today (Monday) at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor which, believe me, sucks more than I—as a proud Michigan State University Spartan—can hardly express.

I know I haven’t been a very good blogger these past few months.  It is my hope and belief that once I put this little heartbeat irritation behind me I’ll be right back to my old sarcastic and altogether unpleasant self.  I look forward to it.

I appreciate all of your good thoughts.  I am sorry to Nomi that your e-mails have gone unanswered. Your concern has meant a great deal to me.

The procedure is supposed to take four hours.  I’ll try to get a Tweet off after it’s over, but I may be out of it. (Diladud, ask for it my name!)

My wife, daughter and Mom are all worried as you might imagine, but my Dr. told me he’s never heard of anyone dying during or subsequent to this procedure and I’d listen to him because, after all, he was pre-med once.  Although it may have been pre-law, I can’t be sure.  The literature I read indicated a 1/3000 chance of experiencing a fatal event.  I’ve decided to withhold this nugget from my family. Besides, I read it to mean that they could perform this operation on me 2,999 times before they managed to kill me.  So, I’ve got that going for me.

I’ll talk to you on the other side.  I love you all…

Richard

(Note: I tried to post this on FaceBook; not sure if it "took," so to speak.)

Richard, my good friend, please take care of yourself. We'll all send positive thoughts your way. No doubt, it will all come out well. (P.S. Don't tell the friggin' Wolverines you're a Spartan fan. Your secret's safe with me.)

At this point that I'm typing, Richard should be resting comfortably. Both SeattleTammy and I send our very best for a speedy recovery and return to your family and friends. We look forward to it.

You better be ready to live-tweet the Pro Bowl, Richard. What else am I gonna do this weekend?
